Dermal fillers are created with a hyaluronic acid base. They are strategically injected into facial tissues to smooth the appearance of wrinkles, enhance volume in areas of hollowness, plump the lips, and define certain features.
Dermal fillers are gel-like and injected with a needle or cannula. Fillers accomplish specific aesthetic goals throughout the face and body. Dermal filler results are temporary and last anywhere from 6-12 months. Gradually, the body will metabolize, break down, and eliminate the filler, requiring follow-up or maintenance injections for prolonged results.
You may receive a topical anesthetic to numb the area and control comfort levels before your injections. Once you’re numb, your injector will administer the filler under the skin using a needle. Some patients report a pinching sensation as the filler is injected. Pain levels are well tolerated and often dissipate quickly. You’ll notice swelling and light bruising after your injections that can be managed effectively with a cool compress.
